SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol employed to connect to a web server and carry out different tasks through a command line. The protocol is used by many expert users, because the info transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access may be used for a variety of things depending on the type of Internet hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the server permits it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for practically anything - you can install software or restart certain services such as the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is used largely with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients that allow you to employ the protocol if your laptop or computer is using a different OS as well. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though a number of providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Shared Web Hosting

SSH access is available with all Linux shared web hosting packages which we provide. With some of them, it's provided as standard, while with others it's an optional upgrade which you can include with several clicks in your website hosting Control Panel. You can obtain SSH access from the section dedicated to it in which you shall also find the details which you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You will be able to select the password that you shall use and, if required, you'll be able to modify it with a couple of clicks from the same location. All of the commands that can be used with our shared packages are listed in a help article alongside relevant instances. If the SSH access function is permitted for your account, you'll also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you will be able to get SSH access to it with only a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting CP, supplied with all accounts. If your package doesn't support this function by default, you'll be able to include it effortlessly through the Upgrades menu. After you go to the SSH section, you shall find the information you need to connect to the server using a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated at any time, when required. These login credentials are also essential if you would like to upload files through a secure connection and you wish to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service that we offer. A comprehensive list of the commands you can carry out shall provide you with a better idea of what tasks you can perform inside your account and each is accompanied by a few examples of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS

You shall be able to use SSH to manage your content no matter which Linux VPS packages you choose when you sign up, as all of our packages come with this feature by default. You'll not need to add or enable anything by hand - the minute your server is ready and you receive the Welcome e-mail with the login details, you'll be able to connect and begin working on your Internet sites or any software you want to install and run on the hosting server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and since the account shall be separated from all the other accounts within the physical server, you'll be able to do anything you'd like with no restrictions. You could set up any app which you need and which shall work on a Linux-based web server, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and work with your files and databases quickly and easily.
